Reusable sandwich bag / snack pouch

Here is a quick tutorial to make your own sandwich bag or snack pouch.  I whipped this up in less then 30 minutes.  Deciding on which scrap fabric and cutting it out took longer then sewing up this bag.  The sewing took less then 15 minutes and I'm a novice at sewing.

Finished size is 6-1/2" X 5-12".
I pre-washed the fabric to get the sizing and all the dyes out before cutting and sewing.  The pattern fabric will be the outside and the white fabric will be on the inside.  I'm using scraps that I already had and the white fabric is an inexpensive muslin.  Both pieces are cut at the same size and you can easily adjust this pattern to make the bag smaller or larger.

Cut two pieces at 7-1/2" X 12"
Put right sides together and sew both short ends. (1/4" seam allowance)
Turn the fabric inside out so the pattern is facing out and the wrong sides are now touching.
I like to iron the seams down and get nice flat ends.
On the long sides, I use a zig zag stitch close to the edge to create a faux serger like seam.  Of course if you have a serger you can just serge the edges.  This will keep the fraying contained.
I like to zig zag the edges twice on top of each other to get a tight seam.  I do this on both long sides.
Now cut a piece of velcro at 6-3/4" and pin at both short edges.
Close-up of the velcro pined to fabric.
This is what it will look like after you sew the velcro in at both ends.
Fold the whole bag in half (right sides facing together) and pin.
Sew using a straight stitch down both sides next to the zig zag stitch.  (Using a 1/4" seam allowance, should get you right next to the velcro that you just sewed in)
Now turn the bag inside out, so that the pattern is facing the outside and the wrong sides are touching.
Your bag is now finished!

Voilà!  Happy snacking!
